Academic Libraries

Academic libraries are specialized libraries that support the research and learning needs of students, faculty, and staff at higher education institutions.

These libraries play a vital role in advancing the mission of universities and colleges, offering access to a wide range of resources and services.

By statute, all public, academic (including college, university, and technical college), and state institutional libraries in South Carolina must submit an annual statistical report to the South Carolina State Library. A selection of these annual reports are available below.

SECTION 60-1-160. State Library to receive statistical reports from libraries.

Every public, college, university, technical college, and state institutional library shall make an annual statistical report to the South Carolina State Library in a form as may be prescribed by the State Library. Reports must be made in a timely manner so that statistics may be published in the State Library's annual report. The State Library may require other reports as may be necessary from libraries receiving state and federal grants or participating in the statewide library network.
