State Library Welcomes New Addition to State Depository Network

Horry Geortown Technical College

We are pleased to announce that Horry Georgetown Technical College Library is the newest addition to the South Carolina State Documents Depository system. As the primary collection and distribution center for state documents, the South Carolina State Library provides digital copies monthly and physical documents quarterly to depository libraries

Historically, there have been both university and public libraries among the eleven depositories around the state. This addition brings the first technical college library to the realm. Exposing students to state agency publications can help educate them about state agencies' work and future career opportunities and benefits within state government.

Richard Moniz, Director of Library Services at the Horry-Georgetown Technical College Library, says, “We are very excited to be joining the South Carolina State Depository system. Information from state agencies is of significant relevance to specific programs of study that we offer. Most of our students stay within South Carolina when completing their programs of study so this will build a very practical bridge to not just information resources but also help the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education’s 60x30 goal which, as stated in its planning documents is to ‘increase the proportion of South Carolinians with high-quality postsecondary credentials to 60 percent by 2030’.”

Join us at the next installment of the Speaker at the Center with Author Patricia Brandon where she will discuss her historical fiction novel, "Rise of the Pale Moon." Set against the backdrop of the Revolutionary War era in coastal South Carolina, Rise of the Pale Moon weaves a compelling tale of three young women from distinct backgrounds: an indentured servant from London, a chattel slave raised on the Montague Hall plantation, and a Catawba Indian captured by the Cherokee and traded into slavery.
