Items onm display in our lobby including a old state flag, info on the Battle of Fort Sullivan, and a piece of the palmetto log fort.

This year, the South Carolina State Library partnered with the South Carolina Relic Room and Military Museum for Revolutionary War Day, which highlights South Carolina’s rich Revolutionary War history and the many battles fought here, including Ninety Six, Sullivan’s Island, Camden, Kings Mountain, and Cowpens.

The fighting produced heroes whose names we still recall, such as the "Fighting Gamecock", Thomas Sumter, and the "Swamp Fox", Francis Marion. Visit our new SC250 display, courtesy of the South Carolina Relic Room and Military Museum, which highlights how the Sabal palmetto, South Carolina's state tree, became a significant symbol during the Battle of Fort Sullivan. The exhibit will remain on display through the end of this year.

Author Patricia Brandon and "Rise of the Pale Moon"

May 7, 2026, 5:30 PM

Join us at the next installment of the Speaker at the Center with Author Patricia Brandon where she will discuss her historical fiction novel, "Rise of the Pale Moon." Set against the backdrop of the Revolutionary War era in coastal South Carolina, Rise of the Pale Moon weaves a compelling tale of three young women from distinct backgrounds: an indentured servant from London, a chattel slave raised on the Montague Hall plantation, and a Catawba Indian captured by the Cherokee and traded into slavery.
