The South Carolina Department of Environmental Services (SCDES) is a South Carolina state cabinet agency established by state law on July 1, 2024, with specific roles and responsibilities for overseeing the protection and preservation of South Carolina’s environment and natural resources. They’re more than scientists, environmental experts, permitting engineers and inspectors. They are collaborators, educators, advisors and public servants, who ensure all South Carolinians have a healthy environment. SCDES focuses on efficient and better delivery of services with a commitment to Science, Service and Sustainability.

In Glad Jibs - Witty Word Games About Protecting South Carolina's Environment, children learn about Earth Day, natural resources, air and water pollution, keeping beaches clean, and recycling through a series of word games. In the back of this publication, SCDES provides a list of resources on how South Carolinians can protect Earth every day, not just on April 22nd. Visit the SCDES website to learn more about the Make Every Day Earth Day initiative.

The complete list of April electronic South Carolina state publications is now available. The South Carolina Digital State Documents Depository provides electronic access to state agency publications. These publications provide citizens with crucial information about state government and include statistics, reports, and data on a wide variety of topics related to the state.
