The South Carolina State Library’s Center for the Book needs your help identifying these key SC Literary Landmarks by nominating your suggestions. Location suggestions will be accepted year-round, and nominees will go to the SC State Library Board for voting. The State Library will designate the new landmarks with a plaque and include them in future traveling exhibits.
- James Dickey Library; University of South Carolina, Columbia, SC
- Pat Conroy Literary Center, Beaufort, SC
- Dr. Benjamin E. Hays Historical Preservation Site, Greenwood, SC
- Harvin-Clarendon County Public Library, Manning, SC; honoring author Peggy Parish, creator of the “Amelia Bedelia” series.
- Arthenia J. Bates Millican Home, Sumter, SC; honoring poet, essayist, writer, and educator, Bates Millican
Please follow the guidelines below when making your nomination. In addition, please provide an address or description of the physical place to commemorate.
- The person was born, raised, and/or spent a significant portion of their life in South Carolina, AND
- the author or poet is/was a winner of a prestigious award for writing (Pulitzer/Nobel), OR
- the writer of a very famous work/series, such as "The Prince of Tides" or "Amelia Bedelia" series, OR
- the person is/was the editor of a famous author or piece of work.
