The South Carolina State Library (State Library) is set to host the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS)-sponsored Freedom Truck in September. The Freedom Truck is a custom-built, fully mobile museum housed in a semi-truck, offering exhibits that bring America’s history to life in an accessible and engaging way. Visitors are welcome to experience the Freedom Truck for free on September 1 and 2, from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the South Carolina State Fairgrounds.

While visiting the Freedom Truck, visitors are also invited to explore the SC250 Revolutionary South Carolina Discovery Center, created by the South Carolina American Revolution Sestercentennial Commission (SC250). The SC250 Revolutionary South Carolina Discovery Center is a separate, permanent exhibit that highlights South Carolina’s pivotal role in the American Revolution. The center will be located adjacent to the Freedom Truck.

In addition to the Freedom Truck, IMLS and the State Library maintain a collaborative partnership. Through federal funding from IMLS under the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA), the State Library administers grants that strengthen public libraries statewide. IMLS funding supports a wide range of services that benefit South Carolinians, including technology upgrades, workforce development, digital literacy, early literacy initiatives, professional development for library staff, innovative local library projects, and expanded access to information and educational resources. These investments help ensure that libraries of all sizes can meet their communities' evolving needs.

This project is made possible by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS).
