The South Carolina Department of Public Health (DPH) was created by the State Legislature with the DHEC Restructuring Act of 2023. The mission of DPH is to protect, promote, and improve the health and well-being of everyone in South Carolina.

As South Carolinians prepare for the return of warmer weather, it’s important that age-appropriate playtime and exercise are part of children’s daily routine. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, it is recommended that infants and children engage in physical activity daily. Physical activity is needed for children to grow healthy and develop properly. Make Time for Play Time! is a guide produced by the South Carolina Department of Public Health to give parents and caregivers ideas to keep their children physically active. With recommended activities and toys for children from birth to age 10, this guide is available in both English and Spanish.

The complete list of February electronic South Carolina state publications is now available. The South Carolina Digital State Documents Depository provides electronic access to state agency publications. These publications provide citizens with crucial information about the state government, including statistics, reports, and data on a wide variety of topics related to the state.

Author Patricia Brandon and "Rise of the Pale Moon"

May 7, 2026, 5:30 PM

Join us at the next installment of the Speaker at the Center with Author Patricia Brandon where she will discuss her historical fiction novel, "Rise of the Pale Moon." Set against the backdrop of the Revolutionary War era in coastal South Carolina, Rise of the Pale Moon weaves a compelling tale of three young women from distinct backgrounds: an indentured servant from London, a chattel slave raised on the Montague Hall plantation, and a Catawba Indian captured by the Cherokee and traded into slavery.
