The State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) was established in 1969 as a program of the South Carolina Department of Archives and History to implement the goals of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, which extended federal support to state and local preservation efforts.

The Federal Historic Rehabilitation Tax Incentive is a partnership between the SHPO and the National Park Service to provide a tax credit for the rehabilitation of history buildings across South Carolina. Since 1976, this program has provided $1.713 billion in rehabilitation for completed projects across 35 counties in South Carolina. Over the past five years, historic properties like the Ellison Flour Mill in Fountain Inn, Granby Mill Village in Columbia, and the Dr. Samuel Brasignton House in Camden received funds to rehabilitate these historic properties and continue to tell South Carolina’s history through modern uses. Learn more about the work of the SHPO through the Federal Historic Rehabilitation Tax Incentive with this presentation.

The complete list of electronic South Carolina state publications for July is now available. The South Carolina Digital State Documents Depository provides electronic access to state agency publications. These publications provide citizens with crucial information about the state government, including statistics, reports, and data on a wide range of topics.
