Job Description

The College of Charleston Libraries seeks a collaborative, student-centered, and innovative Artificial Intelligence (AI) Librarian to provide engaging library instruction to support student success and the Libraries’ role in the upcoming Intentional AI Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP). Reporting to the Interim Head of Research & Instruction Services at Marlene and Nathan Addlestone Library, the librarian in this position will teach credit-bearing instruction through the Libraries and First Year Experience Program, provide scheduled instruction across the curriculum, and offer research assistance by appointment and at the point of need. This librarian will also support the College’s curricular goal of preparing students to become ethical and critically literate global citizens with AI proficiencies and collaborate with library and faculty colleagues and other campus partners to integrate AI literacy, information literacy, and digital projects into course curricula. In addition, this librarian will also develop effective and engaging instructional materials, research guides, and online tutorials that support student learning objectives and promote lifelong learning skills. The AI Librarian is a tenure-track member of the library faculty.

Salary
$65,000 to $72,000 annually (July 1– June 30)

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Graduate degree in Library & Information Science (M.L.S. or equivalent) from an ALA-accredited program
  • Strong public service orientation with an aptitude for providing online and face to face information literacy instruction and research services in an academic library
  • Interest in the intentional, ethical, and effective use of AI in instruction and in library services.
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and instructional technology skills
  • Commitment to professional development and the ability to meet the research, teaching, service, and professional competency requirements for tenure and promotion advancement
  • Some evening and/or weekend work may be required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience providing academic instruction.
  • Experience evaluating, selecting, and implementing instructional technologies in an academic library setting as well as knowledge of current issues and trends in pedagogy.
