The South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs (SCDCA) was established in 1974 to be the state's consumer protection agency. The SCDCA helps to formulate and modify consumer laws, policies and regulations; regulates the consumer credit marketplace; resolves complaints arising out of the production, promotion, or sale of consumer goods or services in South Carolina, whether or not credit is involved; and promotes a healthy, competitive business climate with mutual confidence between buyers and sellers.

Joining a gym can be an easy way to start or maintain an active, healthy lifestyle. These memberships certainly provide many physical benefits to customers, but signing a contract may pose financial risks. Before jumping on the treadmill, exercise your mind and consider reading the document The Facts on…Gym Memberships, produced by the South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs. This document explores general information about gym membership contracts, automatic renewals, canceling your contract, and what you should do when your gym closes.

The complete list of May electronic South Carolina state publications is now available. The South Carolina Digital State Documents Depository provides electronic access to state agency publications. These publications provide citizens with crucial information about the state government, including statistics, reports, and data on a wide range of topics.
