Full-time, 37.5 hours per week, $17.27 per hour.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF CLASS
The purpose of the class is to staff the Library’s Youth Services desk and provide information and guidance, and to perform related professional and administrative work as required. The class works within a general outline of work to be performed and develops work methods and sequences under general supervision.
ESSENTIAL TASKS
The tasks listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional tasks related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
Assists the public in a professional and courteous manner.
Opens and closes assigned department and performs related security procedures.
Staffs the Library’s Youth Services desk.
Interprets Library policies and procedures to the public.
Provides answers to reference questions; directs patrons to appropriate informational resources and/or assists patrons in researching topics as necessary.
Develops innovative programs and services for teens.
Plans and executes all existing Library Teen programs. Examples can be found at pcls.fyi.
Assists annually in planning and executing the Summer Reading Program for children and teens.
Works one night and one weekend every six weeks, subject to change based on departmental and library needs.
Assist teen patrons specifically through reader’s advisory and Teen Book Box selection. Up-to-date knowledge of YA literature, including graphic novels and manga, preferred. May also assist the Youth Services Manager in selecting YA materials to purchase.
Maintains displays and signage in the Teen Area, as well as the general tidiness of that section.
Assists Library patrons in using various resources and equipment of the Library, including computer hardware, software and Internet.
Shelves Library materials.
Assists in maintaining and performs minor troubleshooting of Library automation systems.
Attends staff, committee, County and community meetings as appropriate.
Receives and responds to public inquiries, requests for assistance and complaints in areas of responsibility.
Keeps supervisor informed of all issues and concerns encountered.
Assists co-workers with duties as required.
Performs routine administrative / clerical work as required, including but not limited to preparing reports and correspondence, entering and retrieving computer data, copying and filing documents, sending and receiving faxes, assembling materials, answering the telephone, etc.
Attends continuing education classes, professional meetings, conferences and/or workshops to maintain and enhance job knowledge and skills.
Performs other duties as assigned.
VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL PREPARATION:
Requires a Bachelor’s degree or education and training equivalent to four years of college education in liberal arts, library science or a closely related field.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:
Must possess valid state driver’s license.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Requires over two years and up to and including four years.
