Job Description

Seeking a candidate who loves lifelong learning and helping people grow professionally to lead our staff development program. Would need a strong understanding of organizational awareness and work cultures as well as learning and communication styles. 

Oversees library staff development and the implementation of the Staff Development Plan. Coordinates and conducts continuing education of library staff and new employee orientation. Assesses staff development needs and identifies appropriate training; assists in the coaching process for staff. Develops, acquires, and updates training programs and related material based on identified training needs. Creates original training content. Researches trends in the areas of librarianship and training. Chairs the Staff Education Day Committee, leading the team in planning the day long training event. Evaluates effectiveness of staff training and revises training material and methods as needed. Creates reports and maintains databases related to training. Participates in budget planning for the staff development program. Serves as an integral part of the library leadership team. Assists in the formulation of policy and procedure. Assists in the development of the Library’s strategic plan and succession development plan. Assists with the interview and hiring process for the Library.

Qualifications

Strong communication skills, public speaking, facilitator skills, emotional intelligence, project management, organizational awareness, mentoring/coaching, high level analytical and synthesizing skills. 

MLIS from an ALA accredited college or university; supplemented by 5 - 10 years of professional experience in public libraries or an educational setting. Experience in workforce development, education or staff/patron training. Working knowledge of POLARIS.
