Job Description

Richland Library seeks an enthusiastic and resourceful candidate committed to provide exceptional readers’ advisory, information and reference services at the Readers’ Advisory Department at Main. Knowledge of books and general public reading interests, personal interest in reading and ability to discuss books effectively, ability to contribute to the success of the team are some of the attributes needed to perform the tasks associated with this position, ensuring that our customers have useful, useable, and enjoyable library experiences. Here are some of the things you would be doing if serving in this position: * Promoting the library’s circulating collection by designing, maintaining, and rotating materials displays in and around the library. * Participating in reading plan to enhance fiction and/or nonfiction book knowledge. * Creating readers’ advisory content for the Library’s website and other customer oriented advisory materials. * Conducting interlibrary loan activities. * Performing administrative and support functions for the Research and Readers’ Advisory Department. * Communicating and interpreting general library policies and procedures to customers. * Promoting the library’s collection through written book reviews. * Providing e-resource assistance and instruction for adults. * Serving on departmental and library-wide committees. * Planning, developing, and conducting programs and presentations. * Representing the library at community group meetings. * Keeping informed of professional developments. * Assisting with collecting and reporting transaction statistics. * Assisting customers in locating and using materials and in use of a variety of library equipment. * Performing work in other public service areas as needed. Qualifications

Here are the minimum requirements needed to be considered for this position: * At least two years of post high school education from an accredited college or university. * Specialized knowledge or skills developed through work experience related to readers’ advisory service in public libraries or bookselling. In this position, such skills may include current technology such downloadable resources, social networking sites, and MS Office Products. * Valid drivers’ license and safe driving record may be required. * Ability to perform duties of the job functions: additional skills as required by job.
