Alexander to Debut Young Adult Novel

Known for his engaging children's books and a national youth publishing program, author Kwame Alexander will discuss his new Charleston-based teen novel during book release events at two Charleston County Public Library branches next week.

Alexander will explain how Charleston's teens and the local environment influenced his new novel, He Said She Said, on Wednesday, November 20 at 4:30 p.m. at Charleston County Main Library and Thursday, November 21 at 4:30 p.m. at Dorchester Road Regional Library. He will sign copies of his book after the programs.

He Said She Said is a love story that features humor, history, social issues and transformative experiences.

As a special treat during the November 20 book release party at the Main Library, photography taken by local teens who visited locations mentioned in Alexander's book will be displayed.

He Said She Said is Alexander's 15th book. Known for getting youth excited about literature, Alexander has turned more than 3,000 teens into authors through his Book-In-A-Day young publishers program.

"I've spent my career trying to help young readers understand that literature can be transformative, cool and powerful," said Alexander. "I want this toolkit to provide opportunities for literary experiences that young people can't resist."
