FUNCTION & RESPONSIBILITY

At the Waccamaw Neck Branch Library, a facility adjacent to an Intermediate School and near to a Middle School, the Adult Services Librarian provides informational and recreational public library services to a diverse customer base: He or she functions in a work environment serving not only highly-sophisticated, mature individuals with educated expectations but also individuals of all ages with more basic, pressing needs. Since this recently-built library is located in an upscale neighborhood of a beautiful resort area, there are additionally many seasonal residents and vacationing visitors with high anticipations of excellent customer service. Basic responsibilities include reference assistance, readers’ advisory services, collection development, computer-area supervision, technology instruction, community outreach, high-interest displays and marketing, special projects, some quality adult programming, and other similar duties as required. The Adult Services Librarian reports directly to the Waccamaw Neck Branch Library Manager and may also have supervisory functions. Work processes involve the utilization of standard office equipment to do research, compile statistics, and create reports. In addition to a regular weekday schedule, the work has some weekend and evening hours on an ongoing basis.

SALARY RANGE: $40,970 - $61,455; FT Grade 128 with benefits

Qualifications

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

The Adult Services Librarian should have an ALA-accredited Master’s Degree in Library and Information Studies or an equivalent level of education and experience. A valid South Carolina Driver’s License is also required.
