The South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs, the state's consumer protection agency, has a mission to protect consumers from inequities in the marketplace through advocacy, mediation, enforcement and education. Their recent Ditch the Pitch: A Guide for Guarding Against Scams booklet provides comprehensive information to South Carolina residents about how they can arm themselves with the tips needed to spot and avoid scams. The Department of Consumer Affairs (SCDCA) created this guide because navigating the ever-changing marketplace can be a daunting task, and with the rapid development of technology, scammers are more active (and more successful) than ever. "Ditch the Pitch" is meant to help consumers get ahead of fraudsters, serves as a call to action, and encourages them to "beware and share" this information with friends and family. The informational value of this publication makes it our choice for the October 2024 featured state publication.

The complete list of October electronic South Carolina state publications is available. The South Carolina Digital State Documents Depository provides electronic access to state agency publications. These publications provide citizens with crucial information about state government and include statistics, reports, and data on a wide variety of topics related to the state.
