Did you know the South Carolina State Library maintains a detailed collection of materials from the Chicora Foundation? The online collection consists of curricula materials, reports, research contributions, and newsletters. Chicora is a Columbia, South Carolina public, non-profit heritage preservation organization founded in 1983. The Foundation's work includes archaeological and historical research throughout the Southeastern United States, public education (primarily in South Carolina), and work in conservation and preservation with museums, libraries, archives, historic organizations, and private citizens. Curry, Jr., Beverly Aiken Muhammad, and Anusha Ghosh on Thursday, August 26 at 3:00 PM at the State Library. South Carolina Matilda Evans: A Medical Pioneer is the official biography of Dr. Matilda Evans, the first African American woman licensed to practice medicine in South Carolina.
