Job Description

The James A. Rogers Library at Francis Marion University invites applications for a full-time librarian to participate in the delivery of library services to its users. This is a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Instructor or Assistant Professor.

The ideal candidate will coordinate the library’s instructional services program under the supervision of the Head of Reference and the Dean of the Library. This librarian will coordinate and assess instructional activities, deliver classroom and online information literacy instruction, develop digital learning resources, and collaborate with faculty to integrate information literacy throughout the university’s curriculum.

The ideal candidate will actively participate in the responsibilities of the Reference Department and the library. Duties include providing in-person and virtual reference and research services (including scheduled evening and weekend hours on a rotating basis), serving as a liaison to one or more academic departments, engaging in collection development, and contributing to departmental and library-wide initiatives.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Teaching skills and relevant training or experience.
Experience providing instruction in an academic library or higher education setting.
Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with colleagues, faculty, students, and staff.
Knowledge of current trends and best practices in information literacy and academic librarianship.
Strong organizational and project management skills.

Anticipated Start Date: November 1, 2025.

Qualifications

Qualifications: ALA-accredited master’s degree in library and information science required. Minimum of two years of experience working in an academic library preferred. Interest in, and willingness to meet, the criteria for participation in the University’s peer review process for advancement in rank.
