JOB TITLE: Maker Space Instructor, Grade 23
LOCATION: Maker Space Department, Headquarters Library
DATE AVAILABLE: April 1st, 2025
SALARY: $43,888 per year (Includes generous benefit package) 

HOURS: 40 hours per week 
Monday through Friday, 8:30am - 5:30 pm, with a weekly rotational evening (11:00am - 8:00pm)
One monthly weekend rotation (Friday OFF, Saturday 9:30am - 5:30pm, Sunday 12:30pm - 5:30pm, Monday OFF) 

EDUCATION: Master’s degree in library science from an accredited ALA Library School or 5 years of experience in libraries and/or maker spaces or equivalent professional maker experience. Must complete pre-employment testing.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

•    Creates, promotes, and presents innovative programs for the Maker Lab workspaces and at off-site visits
•    Collaborates with community partners, patrons, and other staff to plan, organize, promote, and present relevant, innovative programs for patrons 
•    Coordinates and reports on maker activities and programs system-wide 
•    Tracks and submits program statistics 
•    Handles financial transactions and assists in preparing bank deposits; may request and complete purchase order requests 
•    Shares maker information, activities, and programs through community outreach 
•    Responsible for maintaining an attractive and engaging environment in the Maker Lab workspaces
•    Responsible for Maker Lab, classroom, and workspace closing procedures when scheduled for night and weekend closings 
•    Participates in department meetings, attends regular training related to library and Maker Space work
•    Remains aware of safety and security issues and takes appropriate action as needed 

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

•    Master’s degree in library science from an accredited ALA Library School or 5 years of experience in libraries and/or maker spaces or equivalent professional maker experience. 
•    Knowledge and proven experience with a variety of maker activities and/or technology, including (but not limited to) 3d printing (slicing and rendering), archival digitization, laser cutting/etching (e.g. Glowforge, XTool), sewing, embroidery, desktop cutting (e.g. Cricut, Silhouette), and digital design (e.g. Adobe, Canva), handicrafts, and/or weaving
•    Comfort with learning, utilizing, and teaching others the activities and technologies
•    Comfort interacting with a wide range of patrons of all ages and abilities
•    Proficient with technology with the ability to troubleshoot equipment and software
•    Excellent written and verbal communication skills
•    Ability to establish deadlines, monitor progress, and work well with a team
•    Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
•    Valid driver’s license with the ability to drive to other libraries or community outreach
