About the Position: The Town of Murphy seeks an engaged and community-focused Head Librarian to lead the Murphy Public Library. This position directs all library operations, supervises staff and volunteers, manages budgets and collections, and works with the Town Manager and regional partners to provide high-quality services to residents.

Key Responsibilities 
Plan, organize, and oversee all library programs and services. 
Supervise staff and volunteers; ensure training and professional development. 
Develop and monitor the library budget; pursue grants and other funding opportunities. 
Oversee collection development, technology, and patron services. 
Foster community partnerships and conduct outreach activities. 
Provide excellent customer service and resolve patron inquiries. 

Compensation & Benefits
Salary Range (Grade 16): $32,946 – $41,181 – $49,418 (minimum–midpoint–maximum). Starting salary depends on qualifications and experience (DOQ). Candidates with library supervisory experience and/or educational credentials (e.g., MLS/MLIS) will start above the minimum threshold and may begin closer to the midpoint of the range depending on combination of education and experience.

Qualifications

Qualifications 
Minimum: High school diploma (or equivalent) and at least five years of library or related administrative experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred: Master’s Degree in Library Science (MLS/MLIS) or related field. Applicants with an MLS/MLIS will be eligible for a higher starting salary within the pay range. Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills. Familiarity with library technology and public programming. Valid NC driver’s license.
