Sample Duties:
-Performs original cataloging of a wide variety of materials for the general collection, serials and periodicals, and special collections.
-Reviews vendor assigned classifications.
-Maintains authority records and performs needed authority work in the ILS.
-Maintains holding information by routinely updating/deleting WorldCat holdings in OCLC.
-Maintains and updates Richland Library’s ACCESS classification scheme. Plans and coordinates re-labeling projects to align collections with ACCESS changes.
-Performs original cataloging on OCLC, following current cataloging standards.
-Works with vendors to set up and maintain library profiles/standards related to outsourcing.
-Coordinates catalog cleanup processes.
-Prepares documentation and training tools and participates in delivery of staff training sessions.
-Analyzes and solves cataloging issues and works with the web team to troubleshoot search and display issues related to the ILS and the website.
-Collaborates with library staff on special projects/initiatives related to collections and cataloging.
-Revises and corrects the work of librarians and non-librarians related to cataloging.
-Edits bibliographic records to assure conformance to the requirements of current cataloging and classification standards and local practices.
-Keeps informed of developments in technology which may impact Collection Development and cataloging.
-Remains informed of current developments and changes in rules and standards related to cataloging.
-Identifies, retrieves, reviews, and imports bibliographic records for e-content as available.
-May supervise and/or guide the work of professional and non-professional personnel.
-Applies the Library’s customer engagement standards by demonstrating characteristics of being enthusiastic, outgoing, and strongly customer-service oriented
-Learns and consistently exhibits Richland Library’s brand promises in all interactions with customers and colleagues; provides outstanding customer service to all internal and external customers; successfully ascertains and meets the individualized needs of each customer
-Engages, encourages, and assists diverse customers in all areas of the Library in a welcoming, professional, and respectful manner
Location, Salary & Hours:
Where: Richland Library Main, 1431 Assembly Street, Columbia, SC 29201
Salary: $1,837.50 bi-weekly plus excellent benefits
Hours: 37.5 hours per week to include occasional evenings and weekends: Monday - Friday 9:00 am - 5:30 pm
Job Role & Level: P2; Pay Grade & Salary Band: 6; FLSA Status: Exempt
** Richland Library may change location and schedule of any library job.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in library science or related discipline; supplemented by two (2) years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training, and/or experience.
