Job Description

$12-$14.50/hr Essential Functions:  Lead Daily Branch Operations: Direct and oversee the day-to-day operations of the assigned library branch, ensuring a safe, welcoming, and efficient environment for both patrons and staff. Supervise Branch Staff: Provide first-line supervision, scheduling, training, coaching, and performance support for branch employees while fostering a collaborative and customer-focused workplace. Deliver High-Quality Public Library Services: Ensure excellent customer service, oversee circulation and public service activities, coordinate branch programming, and promote library resources to meet community needs. Maintain Branch Facilities & Operations: Manage building operations, cash handling, technology, collection maintenance, and operational records while ensuring compliance with library policies and procedures. Job Duties:  Implement strategic directions set by the Executive Director and Regional Library Manager, communicate branch needs and operational issues, and collaborate with other locations to deliver consistent, high-quality services system-wide. Oversee daily branch operations, including opening/closing procedures, to ensure a clean, safe, organized, and welcoming environment. Coordinate facility maintenance requests, ensure compliance with safety and security protocols, and respond appropriately to emergencies. Maintain required branch-level statistics, operational records, and safeguard library assets and equipment. Provide daily supervision, prepare work schedules, approve routine schedule adjustments, and assign daily work responsibilities. Assist with onboarding new staff, deliver ongoing coaching, and provide training to branch employees. Monitor performance, offer regular feedback, recommend personnel actions, and foster a positive, team-oriented work environment. Ensure exceptional customer service, assisting patrons with technology, library services, and information needs. Resolve routine patron concerns while referring complex complaints appropriately to the Regional Library Manager. Promote an inclusive, welcoming, and respectful environment for all library patrons. Plan, coordinate, and deliver library programming across all age groups while encouraging community participation. Build partnerships with local schools, agencies, and community organizations, representing the library system at local meetings. Promote library services and assist with assigned community outreach activities. Oversee circulation services, ensure accurate handling and shelving of materials, and recommend collection needs. Oversee daily cash handling, balance cash drawers, prepare bank deposits, and maintain branch financial records. Confidently represent Allendale-Hampton-Jasper Regional Library System’s member values. Represent AHJ Regional Library System in the community and at community events.  Perform all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):  Associate degree required; Bachelor's degree preferred. Three (3) years of progressively responsible customer service experience, preferably in a public library or public service environment. One (1) year of supervisory or lead-worker experience. Valid South Carolina driver's license or the ability to obtain one. Knowledge of public library operations and customer service principles. Ability to supervise, motivate, and coach employees. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to establish effective working relationships with staff, patrons, community organizations, and local officials. Strong organizational and time management abilities, with the skill to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and resolve problems using sound judgment. Working knowledge of standard office software and library technologies. Prior experience working in a public library setting (Preferred). Direct experience with integrated library systems (ILS) (Preferred). Experience planning and coordinating programs or community events (Preferred). Experience supervising employees or volunteers (Preferred).  Physical Demands and Work Environment:   Work is performed in a library setting with extensive public interaction. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  Work environments are climate controlled, dressing in layers is recommended.
