Job Description

Full time entry level position. Responsible for the provision of juvenile services at a regional branch library. Basic knowledge of modern principles and practices of children’s services in public libraries; general knowledge of children’s materials. Ability to plan and conduct creative children’s programs, including storytime, storytelling and community outreach. Ability to create attractive displays. Skilled in the performance of library tasks. Ability to work well with people in groups and individual settings. Must be computer literate and knowledgeable in various computer software – Microsoft Word, Excel, and Publisher with the ability to learn and use new methods, policies and technological advancements as they arise. Bilingual – English/Spanish a plus. Must be flexible to assume additional responsibilities as needed to maintain branch operations. Must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate pleasantly and effectively with the general public and library staff. Must have the stamina for periods of walking, standing, sitting, reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling and lifting. Must be able to lift books, AV equipment and program materials weighing up to approximately fifty (50) pounds and push book carts weighing up to approximately one hundred (100) pounds. Shelving library materials may also be required. Evening and weekend work included. Other duties as assigned. Eligible for or hold South Carolina State Library certification. A valid South Carolina driver’s license with a safe driving record.

$36,982.40 - $41,620.80 annually, depending on qualifications

Qualifications

ALA-accredited Master of Library Science degree; preferably with early childhood education experience and background. High aptitude for library work; significant understanding of basic aims and services.
