Hiring Salary Range: $45,397-$60,529  Full Salary Range: $45,397.00 - $75,662.00 Annually 

Work Schedule:  Monday – Friday; 8:30 am - 5:30 pm or 9:00 am - 6:00 pm

Primary Duties/Brief Description of Work:

The employee in this position will provide: 1) in their role as Collection Development Manager, leadership in and coordination of all development, maintenance, promotion, and evaluation activities for all print, electronic, online, and special collections of the Greensboro Public Library system, as well as supervision of Technical Services staff who perform acquisitions; and 2) in their role as Information Services Manager, leadership, coordination, and supervision of all reference services provided by Information Services staff at Central Library, including adult programming. Information Services encompasses a broad range of activities including business / non-profit services, digital literacy, job and career services, genealogy, North Carolina history, government information, special needs / Makerspace activities, and interlibrary loan. In total, the Collection Development and Information Services Manager supervises fifteen (15) professional and paraprofessional positions, and typically manages and materials budget of $800K to $1 million. As needed, the position also provides back-up support for the Public Information Requests (PIRT) Administrator and Information Services staff manning a public service desk. The incumbent in this position should have broad familiarity with selection / acquisition of various library materials, including physical formats such as books, DVDs, and CDs, as well as electronic formats such as eAudio and eBooks. Contract management and vendor relations / negotiations (e.g., for electronic databases subscribed to by the Library) are also essential components of the position, and experience managing a budget. The incumbent should also be well-acquainted with current trends in information use in public libraries. Strong communications, organizational, and presentation skills are also required, and familiarity with virtual meetings tools such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams will be necessary. Some familiarity with statistical analysis in order to evaluate trends in the use of the Library collection is also critical. Lastly, the incumbent should also evince a strong commitment to working in an urban setting with diverse groups who may be under economic stress.  The incumbent should also have extensive experience working with standard selection and evaluation methods of general and specialized collections, both print and electronic, in a public library setting.

 

 This job is Exempt and is not subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree with 4 or more years' public library management experience

Or Bachelor's Degree with 10 or more years' public library management experience

3+ years' experience with vendor agreements and contracts

Experience managing an organizational budget of $500,000 or greater 

 An Ideal Candidate Would Also Possess (Preferred Qualifications):

Master’s degree in Library Science (MLS) from an ALA accredited library

4+ years’ experience managing a library collection and/or reference staff

3+ years' experience developing adult library programming
