Description
The Outreach Librarian is charged with expanding reading, writing, and learning activities throughout Lancaster County, connecting more people with the library’s resources. The person in this position manages the bookmobile activities, traveling with the bookmobile to locations throughout the County, circulating books and developing activities at each location. The Outreach Librarian will be a representative for Lancaster County Library at a wide range of community events and will be asked to collaborate with other organizations, such as assisted living facilities and nonprofits.
Examples of Duties
• Manage the Lancaster County bookmobile operations: checking out books, developing fun educational activities, and encouraging enthusiasm for reading • Work with assisted living facilities and other institutions to develop literacy activities * Perform a myriad of library circulation and desk duties, including patron services • Demonstrate proficiency with computers, standard office programs, and library software • Contribute to an environment of diversity, equity, and inclusion consistent with the library’s aims • Complete other duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
Work is performed indoors and outside and may involve sitting at a computer and standing for lengthy periods of time. This position involves a moderate level of physical activity, including stooping, reading, standing, lifting and moving objects up to 40 pounds (heavier items must be team lifted). A high degree of interaction with the public. Staff may report to the Main Library (313 S. White Street Lancaster, SC) or Del Webb Library (7641 Charlotte Highway Indian Land, SC 29707).
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Previous library experience
• Bachelor’s degree, Master of Library Science preferred
• Experience and interest in community outreach to diverse populations
• Demonstrated excellent communication skills
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including time on the book mobile and availability for special programs or outreach events (some possible evenings, weekends)
• Valid driver’s license required
Full Time Position
Salary: $45,000 Annually
