Job Description

We have a great career opportunity available for a State Documents Cataloger in our Columbia, South Carolina headquarters.
 
Under the general supervision of the Director of Library Collections, is responsible for the harvesting, cataloging and creation of metadata for the state government documents.

 The candidate must have excellent customer service skills with the ability to interact courteously and effectively with internal and external customers. They should have excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and the ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines under limited supervision. They must have the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing with all levels of staff and management.

Job Responsibilities
  • Perform original and copy cataloging for the state documents.
  • Create Dublin Core metadata schema for South Carolina state documents and special collections.
  • Acquire and evaluate online state documents through Archive-It software and ingest into digital repository.
  • Organize and maintain digital collections within a digital repository platform.
  • Perform regular collection maintenance: shifting, reorganization, and housing of items.
  • Represent the State Library and participate on committees, in professional organizations, and at conferences. 
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Qualifications

Minimum and Additional Requirements

  • A master’s degree in library science form an ALA accredited college or university and relevant training and development experience.
  • Ability to lift and move materials, bending and reaching to perform regular collection maintenance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3 years professional library experience.
  • Knowledge of original and copy cataloging in OCLC using RDA and Marc schemas and Library of Congress subject headings
  • Knowledge of Dublin Core metadata standards.
  • Knowledge of state government documents.
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail
