The Department of Education's National Institute of Disability Rehabilitation and Research has awarded a grant to NPR and WGBH's National Center for Accessible Media (NCAM) to develop accessible radio technology for people who are deaf, hard of hearing, blind or visually impaired.

The board is looking for a new director to replace Patti J. Butcher, who leaves the library Oct. 20 to return to her home state of Kansas.
SC State Library Offering TechTrack Classes for Public Library Employees
The South Carolina State Library will kick off a series of hands-on technology workshops for public library employees in November with sessions on blogging.
The TechTracks workshops are designed to provide a basic understanding of the technology and offer hands-on instruction. The two-hour workshops on blogging will be held at the State Library in Columbia and at county libraries in Greenville, Florence and Charleston. Participants will read and subscribe to blogs using RSS feeds and create a personal blog.

Friends meeting to be held Oct. 14 in Columbia
The Friends of South Carolina Libraries will hold its annual meeting at 9:30 a.m. Oct. 14 at the Richland County Public Library at 1431 Assembly St. in Columbia. A registration fee of $15 includes a boxed lunch. FOSCL memberships are available for individual and group memberships ranging in levels from $15 to $25. Greenville, Spartanburg libraries add high-tech tools
South Carolina libraries are raising the stakes when it comes to high-tech innovation. Spartanburg County Public Libraries has signed up for MyLibraryTV, which offers on-demand video downloads, and the Greenville County Library System recently purchased a 3M SelfCheck System that allows library users to check out books, videos, CDs or DVDs.
