Author B.J. Welborn to Speak at SC Center for the Book
The South Carolina Center for the Book will host author B.J. Welborn for a lunchtime program on Thursday, June 28th, 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. Welborn, author of Traveling Literary America and America’s Best Historic Sites: 101 Terrific Places to Take the Family, will speak on “Traveling Literary America: Taking a Twain Ride, Pursuing Peripatetic Poe, Hunting Hemingway Hideaways.” The event will take place at the South Carolina Center for the Book, located at the South Carolina State Library at 1430 Senate Street, Columbia.

SC Librarian Selected to Attend Study Tour of German Libraries

Rogers, Director of the Division of Statewide Library Services at the South Carolina State Library has been invited to join a study tour of German libraries that provide research and information services to the German government, the federal and state parliaments and non-governmental organizations.

South Carolina Literary Map Book Series Available to Public Libraries
South Carolina Literary Map: Women of Carolina is a Let’s Talk About It: Reading and Discussion series available to statewide public libraries. Let’s Talk About It, a joint program of The Humanities Council SC and the South Carolina State Library, gives funding to public libraries to host scholar-led book discussion groups.
Three State Agencies Name Susanna Brailsford as Literary Arts Partnership Coordinator
The South Carolina State Library, the South Carolina Arts Commission, and The Humanities Council SC announced today that Susanna Brailsford has been named Literary Arts Partnership Coordinator. Brailsford will work on literary programs for all three statewide organizations through this unique full-time position that is sponsored by a partnership of the three agencies.
South Carolina Student Earns National Recognition in Writing Competition
The South Carolina Center for the Book is proud to announce that Jordan Slisher of Westminster, SC has been named a national winner in Letters About Literature.
Letters About Literature is a national competition of the Library of Congress in partnership with Target Stores and the state affiliate Centers for the Book. Students in grades 4 through 12 write a personal letter to an author, living or dead, explaining how that author’s work changed the students’ way of thinking about the world or about themselves.

Mark your Calendars! Talking book, large print, and Braille readers, ages pre-school through teen are invited to register for the Talking Book Services' Summer Reading Program.
The theme for children ages pre-school through 12 is “Get a Clue @ Your Library.” Pre-schoolers may use “Read-to-Me-Buddies” such as Moms, Dads, siblings, or friends.
