Job Description

The Library Cataloger – SCLENDS is responsible for oversight of the SCLENDS Evergreen Integrated Library System union catalog. This position takes a leadership role to ensure the SCLENDS members are supported in their use of the SCLENDS Evergreen Integrated Library System.


Job Responsibilities
  • Responsible for oversight of the SCLENDS Evergreen Integrated Library System union catalog. Maintains the integrity of the SCLENDS bibliographic database. Develops library cataloging, acquisitions, inventory, and serials procedures. Serves as the central and primary liaison for technical support for the consortium from third party resources.
  • Reviews the work of the SCLENDS members’ data for completeness and accuracy via database reports and items identified by member libraries; identifies bibliographic and holdings issues which impact member libraries; assists with resolution. Reviews, formulates and make recommendations to the Executive Board concerning cataloging, acquisitions, inventory, and serials policy based on current standards and best practices.
  • Responsible for matters concerning the SCLENDS catalog; includes but is not limited to deduplication projects, migration, acquisitions, inventory, serials, reports, etc.; makes recommendations to the Executive Board concerning database and catalog maintenance, training of member library personnel, and best-practices.
  • Acts as the SCLENDS CATALOGING WORKING GROUP (CATWOG) liaison to the Executive Board; maintains the CATWOG listserv; schedules and conducts meetings; responds to questions from CATWOG members.
  • Creates and distributes training and trouble-shooting documents; maintains the SCLENDS Cataloging and Acquisitions Manual in both print and online formats with input from the Executive Board and the CATWOG committee. Assists in training SCLENDS catalogers as to how to utilize the Evergreen ILS software and third party cataloging, acquisitions, and other related applications offering advice and assistance as needed under the direction of the Executive Board. Recommends training for member library personnel as needed.
  • Assesses the quality of bibliographic data of potential SCLENDS members; assists with migration implementation; assists new member libraries migrating to SCLENDS on implementation dates. Evaluates the impact of software updates and new versions for catalogers and technical services staff members.Received, reviews, prepares and/or submits various reports and documents, including statistical reports, activity reports, memos, correspondence, etc.
Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • A Masters in Library Science degree from an American Library Association accredited Library School
  • Five (5) or more years of cataloging experience
  • Experience with original cataloging in all formats, acquisitions procedures and workflows, and authorities management. Knowledge of cataloging principles including MARC and RDA
  • Project management experience
  • Detail-oriented self-starter with excellent customer service, prioritization, organization, interpersonal, grammatical, and oral and written communication skills
  • Must possess a valid state driver’s license

Benefits
  • Starting salary range $39,960-$55,000 depending on experience.
  • Benefits Include: vacation (15 days per year); sick leave (15 days per year); holidays (13 days per year), standard benefits package and South Carolina State Retirement System.
