State Library and Consumer Affairs to Offer Free Credit Monitoring Webinar

The South Carolina State Library and South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs have partnered to provide library staff and the general public a free webinar on credit monitoring.

Time is of the essence! Learn the immediate steps you should take when fielding alerts from a credit report monitoring service. Whether you are currently enrolled in the Experian product Protect My ID or you've purchased another monitoring service, these basic principles can be implemented.

Presenters: Juliana Harris is the Communications Coordinator for the South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs (SCDCA). She arrived at SCDCA in January 2012 and has since organized, presented, and facilitated consumer education programs. Ms. Harris is the main point of media contact at SCDCA and is the creator and distributor of SCDCA press releases. She also designs and creates SCDCA's consumer publications, including newsletters, educational and promotional materials. Juliana is a recent graduate of the University of South Carolina, having earned her Bachelor of Arts in 2010.

Marti Phillips is the Director of SCDCA's Identity Theft Unit. Her primary responsibilities include administration and enforcement of state and federal identity theft laws, providing consumer assistance, and providing education and outreach programs aimed at increasing knowledge of consumer protection laws related to identity theft. Prior to this position, she worked as a Staff Attorney and was responsible for SCDCA's administration and enforcement of the SC Credit Counseling Act, SC Physical Fitness Services Act and the Uniform Athlete Agents Act.
