During the Civil War, General William T. Sherman gained a reputation for being ruthless. Learn more about his tactics when the Laurens County Library, the Laurens District Chapter of the South Carolina Genealogy Society and the Humanities Council of SC present “Sherman’s Flame and Blame” at the Laurens County Library at 7:30 PM on September 10, 2015.
General Sherman’s path through the south was one of devastation and ruin. His objectives and the aftermath will be examined when USC Professor Emerita Pat McNeely visits the library and unlocks the hidden secrets and truths found when researching her latest book: “Sherman’s Flame and Blame Campaign through Georgia and the Carolinas and the Burning of Columbia.” This program will be presented during an open meeting of the Laurens District Chapter of the South Carolina Genealogy Society.
USC Professor Emerita Patricia G. “Pat” McNeely was the Eleanor M. and R. Frank Mundy Professor in the School of Journalism where she taught writing and reporting for 33 years. Before joining the USC faculty, McNeely was a reporter and editor for the Greenville News, The State and the Columbia Record. She is the author of “Sherman’s Flame and Blame Campaign through Georgia and the Carolinas and the Burning of Columbia” and “Fighting Words: A Media History of South Carolina.” She is co-author of “Knights of the Quill: Confederate Correspondents and their Civil War Reporting.”
