PLA workshop coming up in Pittsburgh

The Public Library Association (PLA) is sponsoring a workshop, Implementing for Results: From Idea to Action, on Sept. 18 in Pittsburgh. The one-day workshop will provide library managers with the skills they need to use their library's strategic plans as blueprints for change.

The workshop will include tips and tools to help managers:

  • Identify current and new activities
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of those activities
  • Select preliminary activities
  • Put those activities into context and identify strategic initiatives
  • Determine the resource requirements for the selected activities
  • Develop criteria to select final activities
  • Create action plans for each selected activity
  • Realign resources to support the final activities
  • Monitor the implementation of the final activities

The workshop will be led by Sandra Nelson, a nationally recognized library consultant specializing in public library planning and management issues.

The workshop will be held at the Omni William Penn Hotel in Pittsburgh.  More information about the hotel can be obtained at www.omnihotels.com.  PLA has reserved a block of rooms for a special nightly rate.  Reservations need to be made by Aug. 16, 2006.

Libraries and library systems sending two or more registrants will receive a discount.  Additional pricing information and registration forms are available through the PLA website, www.pla.org.  Registrations must be received at the PLA Office by Aug. 31, 2006.
