Come celebrate Boiled Peanut Day at the State Farmers Market in West Columbia on August 25! The SC Dept of Agriculture announces an event in the August Market Bulletin as part of a month-long celebration of farmers and the 5th anniversary of the Certified South Carolina Grown Summer Celebration. The give-away will take place between 11:00 am and 2:00 pm or while supplies last. SC is now 5th in the nation for peanut production. In 2002 the state had 9,000 acres of peanuts. This year we planted 95,000 acres! The South Carolina Market Bulletin is a publication of the SC Department of Agriculture (http://agriculture.sc.gov/) and won a SC State Library Notable State Document Award for 2011.
