IMPORTANT - Please read before applying for LSTA funds

The use of LSTA funds in support of tuition assistance for librarians is allowable only in so far as the coursework is integral to preparing librarians to develop, expand, deliver, or promote services and programs that are included in the six federal purposes as outlined in LSTA (20 U.S.C. 9141).

This LSTA program is not directed at the support of assistance for generic library coursework.  IMLS holds the position that in order to deliver the services explained in the six federal priorities, library staff may need to receive training so that they can develop and deliver those services -- such training may well involve assistance for related coursework.

The use of LSTA funds to support assistance for coursework in other areas of librarianship goes well beyond the intent of the program priorities and is not allowable.  Per IMLS, such tuition assistance programs are the responsibility of the state.

Note: The six federal priorities are also detailed in the LSTA Information and Guidelines posted on this website.

Current LSTA Grant Activity Period

IMPORTANT - Applicants seeking LSTA funds for coursework must associate proposed training with at least one of the six federal priorities and at least one of the six State Goals as outlined in SC's 2008-2012 Five-Year LSTA State Plan

NOTEPlease contact the LSTA Coordinator before applying for LSTA funding to support coursework.
