A grouchy ladybug, looking for a fight, challenges everyone she meets regardless of their size or strength. Cronin, Doreen. Diary of a Spider. HarperCollins, 2005. This clever picture book weaves lots of information about the habits and life cycle of a spider into a humorous diary about a young spider’s activities, including a sleepover at Worm’s where he’s worried about what will be served for dinner. Illustrated by Harry Bliss, the artist for the Catch the Reading Bug program. Dussling, Jennifer. Bug Off (Eek! Stories to Make You Shriek). Grosset & Dunlap, 1997. Bugsy, who delights in tormenting and destroying bugs, finds out what it is like to be small, helpless, and a victim of cruelty. Ehlert, Lois. Waiting for Wings. Harcourt, 2001. Follows the life cycle of four common butterflies, from their beginnings as tiny hidden eggs and hungry caterpillars to their transformation into full-grown butterflies.
