The South Carolina State Library provides library services to all South Carolina citizens through the public libraries in each county. When your local library is unable to provide you with books or information that you need, your librarian can obtain it for you through the State Library's interlibrary loan service. Individuals are also welcome to visit the State Library to use materials from the collection.

Some services of particular interest to the general public are:

DISCUS - South Carolina's Virtual Library

DISCUS gives all South Carolinians free online access to the best subscription library resources. Find magazine and newspaper articles, reference material, maps, pictures, student & teacher resources, the best Web links, and much more!

 Grants Research Collection

Foundation Directory and Grants Resources to assist South Carolinians in their search for funds to support the programs and projects of their organizations.

South Carolina Center for the Book

The South Carolina Affiliate of the Library of Congress Center for the Book and is a cooperative project of the South Carolina State Library, the University of South Carolina School of Library and Information Science, and the Humanities Council SC.

Talking Book Services

The South Carolina State Library's Talking Book Services department provides informational and recreational reading materials in accessible formats. The program serves South Carolinians unable to use conventional print due to a physical disability.
