As part of May is National Get Caught Reading Month... Berkeley County libraries distributed entry forms for another "Get Caught Reading" promotion.

Sophia Jenkins picked up an entry form at the St. Stephen branch of the Berkeley County Library System for the "Get Caught Reading Now!" contest sponsored earlier this year by NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC KIDS-AEC. All you had to do to enter the contest was have an adult catch you curled up reading a book, have them fill out the form and sign it, then mail it in to NGK in Washington, DC. She caught her daughter, Shakerra reading, filled out the form and mailed it in. The contest ran from 4/28/09 to 6/30/09. Sophia was surprised when she received an email from NGK. She thought it wasn't real. It was. Shakerra had won. In a few weeks, Shakerra received one of the fifty grand prizes that were awarded in the contest!

The grand prize consisted of the following:

Al Capone Does My Shirts by Gennifer Choldenko (available at BCLS) provided by Penguin Putman; The Secret Agent Jack Stalwart Series Book 9: The Deadly Race to Space; The Secret Agent Jack Stalwart Series Book 10: The Quest for Aztec Gold (both provided by Weinstein Books) Young Bond: Hurricane Gold; Silvertounge (both provided by Disney Publishing, Inc.); The Alchemyst; The Magician by Michael Scott (available at BCLS) (both provided by Random House, Inc.); Suddenly Supernatural: School Spirit; If You Are Reading This…It’s Too Late by Elizabeth Cody Kimmel (available at BCLS) provided by Hachette Book Group; Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stewart (available at BCLS) (all three provided by Hachette Book Group). Approximate Retail Value of Grand Prize is $106.90.

National Geographic Kids-AEC even threw in a few extras that you can see in the photo.

Shakerra is really excited about the books and does not like her 4 year old sister to handle them because she is not very careful with them. That is understandable:) I think I would like to read the The Invasion of the Road Weenies! by David Lubar and I am in luck! (available at BCLS)

Congratulations, Shakerra!!
