Public Libraries and New Technologies - 2006/07/10 18:51
South Carolina Librarians: New web-based technologies for finding and sharing information are rapidly attracting the attention of our users. Tools such as IM, blogging, wikis, social software, tagging, and podcasting all have implications for library services.
SC State Library staff are investigating these and more and will present the first South Carolina Technology Institute on September 13. This free conference will offer presentations by three "movers and shakers" in the library world: Michael Stephens, Stephen Abrams, and Jenny Levine. They will introduce us to the concept of "Library 2.0" and together we will explore what this means for our libraries and our users.
We want to have a discussion leading up to the conference, about your feelings, concerns, hopes and fears regarding these new developments. In this space, we'd like to hear your thoughts and hear of your experiences, and especially want to know what topics you most want to learn about in September. So, post away, and let's talk about it!
