In 2005 the State Library began harvesting agency publications that had been published in electronic format. In 2011 we began making both "born digital" and historical publications accessible through our online Digital Collections. Documents are saved in PDF format to library servers so that they will be permanently accessible.

Now citizens of South Carolina, state employees, researchers, and students from across the globe will be able to discover and explore unique and important South Carolina publications.

These documents are also searchable through SC LENDS, the library catalog for the State Library and a consortium of libraries around the state that has agreed to share resources and circulating materials.

Online State Documents Depository

Here are some highlights of collections and documents that are now available online!

• Governor Inaugural Addresses-A transcript of the inaugural speech given by the governor after being elected, usually on the first Wednesday after the second Tuesday in January.
• Governor State of the State Addresses-A transcript of the speech given by the governor each year at a joint session of the General Assembly to report the health of the state economically, to recognize events and individuals, and to put forth goals for the coming year.
• School Directories-the State Department of Education has traditionally published a yearly directory of schools in the state that also include statistics, contact information about the school, and listings of private and secondary schools.
• Great Towns Leaflets-These pamphlets from the State Development Board in the 1980s include pictures from the community and sections on the government, civic institutions, infrastructure, transportation, taxes, and major employers of the area.
