Job Description

Richland Library seeks a dynamic and public-service-oriented professional for the position of “Research and Readers Advisory Manager”. Reporting to the Director of Library Experience, Main, this individual performs professional and supervisory work in public service areas by initiating, planning, and overseeing programming and outreach services to adults both with the library and in the community. The individual we are looking for is a very good communicator, both in writing and speaking; who understands the importance of keeping all staff on the same page, and of leading them in effectively modeling enthusiasm and commitment to the library’s mission, values, and strategic plan. Strong readers advisory experience is a must! Here are some of the things you would be doing if selected for this important position: * Managing the Research Center and readers advisory services; developing and implementing readers advisory service and training readers advisors. * Interviewing, selecting, and training staff, including staff for Research Center and staff from other departments with expertise in readers advisory. * Approving staff leave and scheduling. * Creating and maintaining weekly desk schedule on a rotating basis; assigning and supervising duties of unit staff and readers advisory. * Evaluating performance of unit staff and providing input on performance of readers advisory staff from other departments. * Representing the library at community and group meetings. * Serving as night or weekend supervisor for library system as needed. * Providing bibliographic instruction. * Managing major projects related to the Research Center and readers advisory services. * Preparing community analysis and conducting surveys regarding current and future programming needs. Actively seeking program presenters and exhibitions. Developing partnerships with the community to provide programs and services. Preparing and delivering speeches to community groups. * Advising in the selection of materials, delegating the maintenance of the collections, reading professional literature, and reviewing as appropriate to correspond with current and future library programs. Planning, coordinating, organizing, and providing various cultural, recreational and educational related programs for adults. * Providing direct assistance to customers with basic information regarding use of library materials, equipment, and services. Delivering readers advisory services. * Initiating, planning, and conducting a variety of programs and activities to encourage the use of the library, including films in coordination with appropriate departments and special events, reading clubs, and college and community outreach. * Performing output measurement of library service, collecting and analyzing other statistical data on research programs and services. Qualifications

* ALA accredited MLS degree. Transcripts must be presented upon hire. * Eligible for or holds South Carolina Certification. * At least two years of satisfactory professional library experience in a library of recognized standing after receiving degree; including strong readers advisory experience, which may have been as pre-professional. * Subject specialization or second Masters may be required. * Valid driver’s license with safe driving record. * Ability to perform job functions.
