York County Library Bookmobile Open House on April 16
Celebrate National Bookmobile Day and get a look inside the York County Library Bookmobile on Thursday, April 16 from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. and 2 – 6 p.m. at the York County Library in Rock Hill. Learn about the bookmobile and the outreach services provided throughout York County. Receive an official Bookmobile Day sticker, a sweet treat, and a make and take papercraft bookmobile.
About the York County Library Bookmobile
For over 100 years, bookmobiles have delivered information, technology, and resources for life-long learning to Americans from all walks of life. Bookmobile service has been offered in York County since 1937.
York County Library’s bookmobile is 28 feet long and carries over 5,000 books and other library materials. Traveling over 8,000 miles a year, the bookmobile travels to 50 different locations in York County each month. Scheduled stops are made in York, Sharon, Tega Cay, Lake Wylie, McConnells, and numerous locations in Rock Hill and Fort Mill.
Services are provided to schools, daycare centers, nursing homes, detention centers, apartment complexes and neighborhoods. The bookmobile visits school lunch sites during the summer, and many community events and festivals. The bus is equipped with live Internet access and provides all the same services that regular libraries offer. Books and materials may be checked out or returned on the bookmobile and library cards can be issued. The bookmobile offers services to those who do not have a branch library in their area as well as those who have no transportation to get to a library. Staffed by Terri Hovis, Sarah Metts and Lauren Stogner, the bookmobile strives to keep up with patron’s ever-changing needs without losing the personal touch that they are known for.
