Storyteller and Archivist to Discuss Folklore, Local History During Special Tour on October 24

The Ghosts of the USC Horseshoe: Facts and Fiction tour aims to find the true history behind popular ghost stories

Join the South Carolina State Library on our Ghosts of the USC Horseshoe: Facts and Fiction tour as we explore the University of South Carolina campus with author Tally Johnson and USC Archivist Elizabeth West!

We will begin at the South Carolina State Library, on the corner of Bull and Senate, where Johnson will thrill us with the ghost stories of USC. Then we will walk the Horseshoe with West as she tells the real history and facts that might be behind some of the stories.

Presenter Bios:

Elizabeth Cassidy West is the University Archivist for the University of South Carolina. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism, a Master of Library Science, and a Master of Arts in History from the University of South Carolina. She is the author of three books on University history, University of South Carolina, a pictorial history; University of South Carolina Football Vault: The History of the Gamecocks; and her new book, On the Horseshoe: A Guide to the Historic Campus of the University of South Carolina. Ongoing projects include the Historic Horseshoe Wall Renovation Project and university efforts to document and acknowledge the role of slavery in its history.

Tally Johnson is a graduate of Spartanburg Methodist College and Wofford College with degrees in history. He is the author of Ghosts of the South Carolina Upcountry, Ghosts of the South Carolina Midlands, Ghosts of the Pee Dee (all for The History Press) and Civil War Ghosts of South Carolina (for Post Mortem Press) and has a story in An Improbable Truth: The Paranormal Adventures of Sherlock Holmes (from Mocha Memoirs Press) as well as two stories in 44 Lies by 22 Authors (for Post Mortem Press). Johnson currently serves as Special Services Coordinator for the Chester County Library. He has been a guest at ConGregate, ConCarolinas, Fandom Fest, MonsterCon, MystiCon, AtomaCon and Imaginarium.
