The sixth-annual statewide summer reading kickoff presented by the South Carolina State Library will feature award winning author/illustrators Jarrett Krosoczka and Lauren Castillo on Saturday, June 4, 2016. Families from across the state will be able to celebrate the 2016 Collaborative Summer Library Theme “On Your Mark, Get Set…READ!” at a free event for families held all day at the State Museum in Columbia.

Lauren Castillo has written and illustrated over 14 books for children including the 2015 Caldecott Honor, Nana in the City. Along with several picture books including Punk Farm, Jarrett Krosoczka is the author/illustrator of the Lunch Lady graphic novels and Platypus PoliceSquad middle-grade novel series. This year’s event will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with presentations by the authors, a summer reading themed craft area, face painting, local college mascots and a Readers Theater presentation. Storytelling will take place all day on the fourth floor with a special guest presentation by Jim Gill who encourages read along and sing along play in his work.

StoryfestSC exposes families to children’s authors and the art of story, and fosters an excitement for reading, especially throughout the summer. All of South Carolina’s public libraries participate in the State Library coordinated summer reading program. For more information, please visit storyfestsc.org.
