Renowned storyteller to visit Laurens County Library

Storyteller Marilyn McMinn-McCredie

Experience Southern Appalachian Folklore & Music with Storyteller Marilyn McMinn-McCredie
at the Laurens County Public Library

The Laurens County Public Library presents renowned storyteller Marilyn McMinn-McCredie on Tuesday, March 17 at 6:30 pm, in the meeting room of the Laurens Library. McMinn-McCredie brings a clever, home-spun wit to her telling of stories and singing mountain ballads while she accompanies herself on the mountain dulcimer.

McMinn-McCredie isn't from the mountains — she is of the mountains."I watched my grandmother wash clothes in a kettle with a battling stick,” said McMinn-McCredie. “I didn't have to 'learn' about mountain culture — I've been personally involved in a century's worth of it."

Born in the Hooper's Creek section of Henderson County, North Carolina, of a family who has held property there since land-grant days, McMinn-McCredie grew up steeped in Appalachian folkways and tradition, and she uses this experience as the basis for her riveting and entertaining stories and ballads.

This program is appropriate for children of all ages, and all family members are welcome. Marilyn McMinn-McCredie appears as part of the ongoing Family Night Out series of entertaining and enriching programs brought to you by the Laurens County Public Library Friends of the Library. This event is free and open to the public.
