Naturalist Rudy Mancke to Speak at Laurens Library

Noted Naturalist Rudy Mancke will be speaking at the Friends of the Library annual meeting April 22 at 2:00 PM. This meeting will be held at the Laurens County Library on West Main Street in Laurens.

Spartanburg native Mancke is a Wofford College alumnus. In his early career he spent several years as a teacher, but later worked with the S.C. State Museum. He is best known for his many years as the naturalist from Naturescene, a production of S.C. Educational Television. On the air for over 20 years and syndicated coast-to-coast.

Naturescene featured S.C. environments early in its production, but later episodes were filmed around the USA and even in other countries and on other continents. Episodes featured interesting outdoors locations. The plants, animals, climate and geology that the Naturescene team encountered were all considered and explained. Naturescene continues to be one of the longest running and most technically accurate TV nature programs ever produced. Since Naturescene stopped production, Mancke has taught environmental and ecology classes at the University of South Carolina.

During his visit to the Laurens County Library, Rudy Mancke is certain to deliver an interesting program about adventures in the classroom, in the field, and on television, as well as the powerful impact education and libraries can have on a community or individual.

Anyone with an interest in understanding the beauty of nature will surely not want to miss this exciting opportunity.

This meeting is free and open to the public.
