Fifth Annual Amazing Read at the Greenville County Library System

Join Greenville County Library System as we celebrate the fifth annual Amazing Read with a series of programs based on this year's selection--All Over but the Shoutin', an adult book by Pulitzer Prize winning author Rick Bragg. In his memoir, Bragg brings us back to his early life of stifling poverty in Alabama. Emerging from the story, is the valiant woman who is Bragg's mother, protecting him from the ignorance that surrounds them and guiding him into a life that rises above it - "a woman who picked cotton, scrubbed floors and took in washing and ironing--who went 18 years without a new dress so I could have school clothes," says Bragg.

This year, the Laurens County Public Library is joining the Greenville County Library System in celebrating The Amazing Read. Hear Rick Bragg speak about his experiences growing up in the South at the Fountain Inn Civic Center. Don't miss All Over but the Talkin' book discussions held at a branch near you in both Greenville and Laurens counties. Explore the Southern identity through stories, food and music at exciting programs presented during October and November.

The Amazing Read is generously underwritten by the Friends of the Greenville County Library System to encourage discussion and build community around literature.
