Chesterfield Announces New Library Director

The Board of Trustees of the Chesterfield County Library System is pleased to announce Brenda Branson as new director. Mrs. Branson will begin her tenure as Library Director on August 1, 2011. Her previous experience includes being a head librarian in various school districts and as a reader services librarian at Batesburg-Leesville Public Library. Branson has been instrumental in the openings of three new school facilities and has served on building and planning committees for the Matheson Memorial Library in Cheraw, SC. She received a Masters of Library and Information Science from Appalachian State University in 1982 and is a member of the South Carolina Association for School Librarians.

As a former resident of Cheraw, SC, Branson is excited about moving back home this August to serve as the director of the Chesterfield County Library system. According to Branson, "I hope to form local partnerships to boost the community, and in turn, see the library program grow and prosper. In order for the library to thrive, the community must thrive. With today's tough economic times, we need to support each other within the community. Chesterfield County is rich. Gifted local artists, a proud history, plentiful resources, and community pride are its precious gems. The library is a great place to start celebrating Chesterfield County's assets."

The Chesterfield County Library System is comprised of four branches with the headquarters library located in Chesterfield, and serves a population of 43,289. There are more than 15,000 registered borrowers, a number that is increasing rapidly, and an annual circulation of almost 100,000.
