The Lee County Library would like to thank all of our patrons who participated in our "Fines for Food" amnesty program. The library collected almost 200 pounds of non-perishable food items for distribution to the Salkehatchie families. This was a wildly successful program that will become an annual feature. Again, thanks to all our patrons – you all are great!!

Halloween is Director Dawn Ellen’s favorite holiday. Director Dawn is extremely talented and artistic. Put those two together and what do you get??? Some really great decorating for Halloween at the Library. You HAVE to come in and see our decorations. They are just fantastic. If you haven’t been to the Library in awhile this is a great time to come. We hope to see you – we miss you – come and see us.

ON THE NEW RELEASE SHELF:

We have some terrific new non-fiction releases. Nikki Giovanni is one of the most highly regarded (and controversial) poets of the modern age. In her new bookAcolytes Ms. Giovanni has penned eighty new poems as well as prose pieces celebrating love, memories and even nostalgia.

George Tenet was the Director of the Central Intelligence Agency before, during and after September 11, 2001. In his new book, At the Center of the Storm, Mr. Tenet tells of the inside decision making processes made right after 9/11 and during the run up to the war in Iraq. This is a fascinating read and reveals previously undisclosed information.

Ellen Burstyn’s Lessons in Becoming Myself is the extraordinary story of the quest for the examined life. By turns tragic and funny, thoughtful and lighthearted; it is a brilliant accomplishment by one of the finest observers of human nature.

Don’t forget that September is Library Card Sign Up Month. The library card is the most important school supply you can obtain for your child. Guess what – it’s a free school supply! If you are a resident of Lee County your library card is FREE. With your card you can access our computers, get homework help, check out our CD, DVD and VHS selections and have access to the State Library System. The Lee County Library is the best deal in town so come in and check us out.

Fun Factoid: Today is National Video Game Day – so let’s fire up those Nintendo’s boys and girls!!
