The Library Staff and Board of Directors of Lee County Library would like to offer a big THANK YOU to the Kiwanis Club and Ruby Gibbs for a cash donation that they made for the purchase of Children’s books. Through their generosity we were able to purchase the following titles: “Champions on the Bench”, “Charming Opal”, “Batter up Wombat”, “Someday”, “An Apple for Harriet Tubman”, “A Second is a Hiccup”, “Priscilla Superstar!”, and “Let them Play”. Thank you very much for your thoughtfulness, it is greatly appreciated. The Annual Easter Egg Hunt was a huge success. Thanks to all the patrons and pre-schoolers who participated. April 15th through the 21st is “National Library Week”. To help celebrate the Library is offering “Fine Amnesty Week”! If you have overdue library books, this is the time to bring them in. The Library will waive the late fee and you are home free!! Sweet, huh?! So, look around your house for any orphan library books and bring them back home. With the arrival of warmer weather and the longer days, our thoughts turn to gardening. Well, my thoughts most definitely do not turn to gardening, but other people’s do. In that spirit, let’s take a stroll through the shelves and see what we have in the gardening section. Dewey Number 635. First of all there is a wide selection of books. Something for everyone from the master gardener to the botanically challenged - such as myself. “Bulletproof Flowers for the South” by Jim Wilson features more than a hundred heat and humidity resistant blooms that will offer a bounty of beautiful garden color to be enjoyed all summer. “The Bountiful Container” by McGee and Stuckey, covers everything you ever wanted to know about growing edibles in containers. It is written in a breezy low-tech style that makes you want to get your hands dirty - right away! “The Scented Garden” by Rosemary Verey offers practical advice on planting a garden that emphasizes scent as well as color. The book presents over one thousand plants that provide the framework for a fragrant garden of any size. |
