In coordination with the Library Director, responsible for developing and implementing marketing plans and content for promotion of library services, Under supervision of the Information Services Manager, performs high-level professional duties including supervising the delivery of reference services at the Reference desk, planning and conducting programs and outreach, and providing in-depth reference services to library patrons and staff. Work is carried out with a high degree of independent judgment and initiative. Reports to the Information Services Manager. 

Creates digital and print content to promote library services, collections, programs, and events, for the library system as a whole as well as for individual branches and departments. Required content can include graphics, videos, animation, social media posts, press releases, flyers, banners, newsletters, etc., and should be customized for various audiences and populations served by the library. 

Coordinates promotion throughout the library system; establishes guidelines and templates for use by individual library staff and departments. Proofreads, edits, and revises library communications to maintain consistent tone and quality. 

Develops and maintains consistent branding, visual identity, and written voice for the library system

Develops and implements marketing and communication strategies to increase public awareness and usage of library services, in support of the library’s mission and strategic plan. Assists Library Director in development of reports, plans, and presentations. 

Collects statistics to measure the effectiveness of promotions. Gathers community input through surveys, interviews, and discussions.

Collaborates with community partners and represents the library to various groups and individuals including patrons, vendors, Friends organizations, businesses and non-profit organizations, local media, other Florence County departments and agencies, etc. 

Provides exceptional customer service to external and internal customers, both within and outside the library, over the phone, or online.

Serves on public reference desk as scheduled and maintains high standards of quality and accuracy established for reference service. Assists patrons with public computers, online catalog, databases, and other library resources and equipment. Assists other departmental staff in reference interactions that require more in-depth research, specialized knowledge, referrals to other organizations or agencies, etc. 

Plans, conducts, and evaluates library programs and outreach in coordination with the department.

Supervises reference associates as designated by the Information Services Manager.

Provides input and recommendations to the Information Services Manager, suggests resources and materials, and assists with the development of policies and procedures.

Reads professional literature and maintains current knowledge of developments and trends in library services. Attends professional conferences, workshops, and meetings, as appropriate and participates in professional organizations. 

Displays cultural literacy and maintains familiarity with the interests and needs of a diverse service population.

Participates in library’s ongoing training program. Provides training and guidance to staff as required.

Operates a motor vehicle and various types of office and other equipment including but not limited to computer, printer, fax machine, copier/scanner, assistive technology, camera, smart devices, etc.

Participates in any special projects or activities as assigned.

Works nights and weekends as required.

Performs other associated duties as required or assigned by the Library Director. The Florence County Library System may change assigned work location and schedule of any position depending upon the needs of the system.

Qualifications

Master’s Degree in Library Science (MLS) from a graduate library program accredited by the American Library Association supplemented by three years of relevant post-MLS professional library experience; experience with social media marketing, web analytics, and SEO; proficient with Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Premiere, or equivalent software; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must possess or qualify for a Professional Librarian’s Certificate from the South Carolina State Library. Must possess a valid South Carolina Driver’s License.
